Jane’s not typing that, her mom’s saying that. But if you’re talking about the author’s writing, that sentence is grammatically correct.
If we accept that the author doesn’t mean to present Betty as a one-dimensional version of evil incarnate, then maybe she’s doing this because she knows that Jane is a submissive footstool who needs to learn how to be more assertive in order to become a better person.
Nope, even I can’t buy that story. Betty hates Jane for not being a success in life, but really it’s because Betty won’t get to sponge off Jane for the rest of her life like she probably does with Sabrina. If this keeps up, Jane would need to see a psychiatrist to deal with her psychologist mother.
As it is right now, there is no point for Jane to try to gain a good relationship with her mother. Betty doesn’t want it and even if Jane does somehow manage to make her mom happy, it’s only because of the money or the ego boost Betty will get from it. Maybe in the future, there will be more to the characters so the entire strip doesn’t feel like they’re going through the motions.
