Granddad: Foresight, boy. I'm tryin' to teach you foresight... Huey: This is the biggest box I've ever seen. Is there really a TV in there? Granddad: Well, a big TV is easier on my eyes - anyway, the lesson here is to keep an eye out for opportunities, got it? Huey: Since when do you rollerblade? Granddad: I can learn. See, this is a once in a lifetime - once in 100 lifetimes - chance. It's not about spending - it's about smart spending, understood? Huey: Is this a DVD? Granddad: Boy, are you listening to me? Huey: Yeah, but what happens if the Y2K bug doesn't wipe out your credit card bill? Granddad: That's why we keep all the receipts...

It was fun shopping for land in remote locations after that non-event. You could find some interesting off-the-grid structures going VERY cheap.

Ah, yes. I remember the Y2K panic. When upper management kept 3 techs on hand in case everything crashed. While it really would have only taken one to reboot the system, I imagined a Three Stooges like scene with the un-technically inclined supervisor demanding that they at least, LOOKED like they were doing something about the expected failure. A faked outage, to solidify their job security with clueless management was rejected early on as unsustainable in light of possible make-work requests for documentation “in case this happens again”. Y3K?
