There was a 30s era boxer Slapsie Maxie Rosenbloom. He quit the ring and got into show biz. I think I heard this on an old radio show(might have been Fred Allen), the host asked why he gave up boxing.
“I had trouble with my eyes,” Maxie deadpanned. “Every time I opened them up, I was looking at the lights!”

His nickname was Rembrandt because of all the time he spent on the canvas.

Ring girl?

Back in the day, the Ring girl would walk around the ring holding up a sign as to what round was next.
