Google “goodnight moon.” It’s a classic children’s book about a bunny saying goodnight to everything it sees. Guy & Rodd’s take even includes the mouse and the hands on the clock.
She’d whack me with that brush, you say?.She can’t do that! I’ll run away!.I am the cutest bunny here! .She cannot smack my little rear!.I know I’ll find a better way! .I’ll call the ASPCA!
@Hillbillyman You can tell that Susan Sunshine wrote it, because it is highly specific to the picture. Also, apophasis is highly characteristic of her literary style.@SusanSunshineThank you for another literary masterpiece. I like your cataphatic works too.
I believe Susan and Bailey are channeling Dr. Seuss. Truth be told the two of you were funnier than the strip today!
I am still relatively new here but have already found myself becoming somewhat of a closet fan to some of the regulars who leave comments on this site. Sunshine, you are indeed towards the top of the list.
One of the 2 stuffed animals I had was a floppy eared bunny like that. I eventually had 2 dolls, too-partly because I messed up the face of the first one (like unsucessful plastic surgery) by trying to make her prettier with “makeup”-all I had was nail polish and the acetone melted the composite material- so the became the elderly queen mother and the fat panda was her consort- bunny was the prince. I love all the nursery rhyme references around the room, and the way Susan picked them up in a rhyme.
I was also wondering at the relatively low position of the moon in the window-loog at it more, it is just to suggest thet the cow IS ready to jump over it as soon as the child goes to sleep…
And SpanishInquisition, that’s what it made me think of too. Hope he’s having sweet dreams.
Meanwhile, thank you Hilbillyman, Ronald, Dave, and GoodQuestion! Whew.
If you haven’t read Good Night Moon" (and you should, you really should!) I’m getting some rather undeserved credit, though.
My lines, like rOdd’s great illustration, are a pretty close parody of the book, so if I’m channeling anybody (I’d love to be so lucky) it’s Margaret Wise Brown, not Dr Seuss….
And rOdd has pretty much channeled Clement Hurd, the illustrator.
You can see some of it on Google Book Search…. here This might work…
Night Gaunt: The rabbit in the moon is easy to see at full. Imagine the Everready rabbit, normally seen only on the right side; turn him to the left side showing; have him climbing a 35° slope to the left. He is either rather fat or else has the drum!
This is the best children’s book ever written. Margaret Wise Browns childrens books are absolute CLASSICS! I read them all to my sons, own all of them. So sad that she died so young.

Bunny, bunny…. the Moon always maintains a stony silence — but he’s showing you his warm side, isn’t he?

Meanwhile…..
Don’t wake the bears, don’t wake the chairs…
Don’t wake the mittens or disturb the kittens…
Turn out the lamp, or have some mush.
But don’t annoy the old lady who is whispering “hush”,
Or you might get a spanking with that giant brush.

Looks like a first frame of a “Perry Bible Fellowship” comic.

Big red ballon in the room so high.
Is that a tear I do see in your eye?
Your so blue because of a slight.
All because of,no good night.
Dry Your eyes, its no big thing.
Listen,is that the phone i hear ring.
To wish you a very good night.
Sweet dreams,sleep so tight.
Susan Sunshine did not notice you so bright.
Her eyes where blinded by the moon on this night.
LOVE YOUR PROSE .

Hey Doc — nice work!
I didn’t mean to slight the balloon, honest……. so sorry, balloon.
I just thought my little parody was getting too long.
“Goodnight balloon” and “Goodnight phone” are in the book, though, along with “Goodnight cow jumping over the moon.”
Hope he accepts my apology. I hate being responsible for a red balloon feeling blue.
