When he went pro the league said he had to wear his team’s shorts. He got around this by wearing a baggy pair of team shorts with his college shorts under his team shorts and since he was the most popular player of his day everyone wanted to be like him and started wearing baggy shorts.
My friend Google tells me this means ‘a combination of the words “jean” and “shorts” used to describe the hideous attire, usually sported by NASCAR afficionados and men over 40.’
