I figured he would have taken the trollie.

If he hadn’t been a rush, he’s have sTrolled over.

But he still ended up under a bridge.

Used to be trolls would charge you to cross their bridge. You would have to stop and “pay troll”. We still have that term today, but the “r” is dropped. On some highways / bridges you have to stop and pay “toll”. As opposed to freeways, which are free, no toll.
