@FLASH KENT: The Great Wall of China was built to keep invaders who were warring with China out, not to keep immigrants out. The wall was built by soldiers and slaves (and of course the slaves weren’t paid and its likely the soldiers just got whatever tiny salary they were paid in those days.) There are estimates that 40,000 of the workers died during construction of the wall, and were buried in it. I guess you can say it ‘worked’ because it prevented some invasions, but clearly didn’t help at all during World War II…
