    If he gave it his best he should be proud. Our society puts too much enfasis on results rather than effort. A well earned 14th place is better than a lazy 1st place.

    I’ve never thought much of awards because there are always those who did more or were overlooked. Not much point in giving an award to someone who didn’t earn it. Rather like the boss that doesn’t notice the five “worker bee” employees who keep everything running and gives the raise to the flashy slacker.
