Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for January 13, 1991
Transcript:
Calvin: Hey Hobbes!..Hobbes! It's bedtime. Hobbes: Ooh, I wouldn't have wanted to sleep through that. Calvin: I wonder why we dream when we sleep. Do our brains get bored? I wonder why we don't just plain sleep. Hobbes: I think we dream so we don't have to be apart so long. If we're in each other's dreams, we can play together all night. Calvin: Hey, yeah! Well, I'll se you in a few minutes, ol' buddy! Hobbes: I'll be there!
Touching strip. This is Watterson’s commentary on this one:Our cat Sprite was often a model for Hobbes, both in looks and personality. When she died, I drew this cartoon. We can always meet again in dreams.Watterson was not just some hack; he was a passionate cartoonist who truly felt his work and put his life, soul and feelings into it. If only we had more of this.
