Maybe Calvin is wearing Brown Shoes.
“Buster” Brown was a mischievous cartoon character, who, together with his dog Tige was the comical characters that helped sell the shoes.
Tigger is a fictional tiger character originally introduced in A. A. Milne’s book The House at Pooh Corner. He is easily recognized by his orange and black stripes, beady eyes, a long chin, a springy tail, and his bouncy personality. As he says himself, “Bouncing is what Tiggers do best.” Like other Pooh characters, Tigger is based on one of Christopher Robin Milne’s stuffed animals.
A ‘heel’ is an old-fashioned word for a guy who’s a jerk. So not only does Cal use the old word ‘Buster’, he’s far along with his homonyms, as well. His vocabulary is a part of his charm, I guess. Precocious!

There are a lot of talking dogs in comics, but there’s only one stuffed tiger that talks. Suspension of belief in reality: Priceless

Now at six years old, where did Calvin come up with the word buster ? He must have been called that by mom or dad.

A comic with a talking tiger and h2oman is worried about how a six year old is familiar with the word “Buster”?

Tigger never appeared in the comics, and he’s never identified as a tiger (we just assume he is).

Dypac I am not worried about a comic strip or a talking tiger, it was just a comment on how children acquire their vocabulary.

Calvin can also try his luck at stand-up comedy. His way of dealing with hecklers need improvement though.

Did julmerrolla’s explanation help? The man gives the dog a basic command “heel”, which the dog takes as an insult.

Of course, Hobbes has the meta-joke on Calvin.

Hobbes is doing what a lot of us do here. We try to apply logic to the imaginary and miss the point of the whole thing.
Of course, it would help if Calvin’s joke was actually funny! :)
