Cathy: One good prediction in a fortune cookie used to sustain me for weeks...now I have astrology books...numerology books, ancient Indian animal sign books, and direct dial to the psychic hotline. One meaningful saying on a mug helped empower me through the 70's...now I have nine volumes of affirmations, eleven books or insprirational sayings, and a pad of spiritual sticky notes. One cute refrigerator magnet helped me keep my sense of humor through the 80's...now I have a joke-a-day wall calendar, joke-a-day desk calendar, joke-a-day screen saver and a support group on "how to not take myself so seriously." One poignanat mini-plaque used to keep me motivated...now I have a $450 audio cassette series with reward stickers, progress chart and "aim for the starts" web site. One sentence used to have an impact...now a multimedia blitz is required. The 90's consuer: Harder to convince, bu easier to sell.
