Best response? Walk away from the deal! Buy a year old car ….or two year old one…a lot of possible bugs in the vehicle will have been found and, hopefully, fixed.
Just walk away dude. If you really want it, try another dealer. It is not so much that the salesman will work to get you a better deal, but if he wants his commission HE has to be the one to sell it.
When I was left a bit of money by a relative, I went out and bought me a convertible. White with a black cloth top. I was in love. The most shocking part of dealing was that I had to give the salesman $20 in cash or he wouldn’t talk to me. He wanted $100, but I lied and told him I only had the $20. He pocketed it. I did not know that this was a standard practice in the big city dealer I had to go to, to buy the model I craved. This was 25 years ago. No one wanted to talk to a countrified mouse of the female gender, all alone, car shopping. I made the deal I had planned on. He gave me my $20 back. He was Mr. Slick for sure. I could have bought 3 of those cars that day and paid cash for them, but he didn’t know that. So much for my one and only time I bought a new car for myself. I drove it for 11 years, then sold it.

By the time you pay the premium for the car you’ll never make up for it with the money you save on gas.

Yup—that dealer wouldn’t get MY business, either. Time to skedaddle, Cathy/Irving.
HI, MOM. Happy Friday, Clan.
