The trick with cats is to have very few rules, but rules that make sense to a cat and are CONSISTENTLY enforced. It doesn’t make sense to tell a cat he is not allowed to scratch anywhere. That’s a stupid rule; cats gotta scratch. My cats have something they are allowed to scratch on in every room except kitchen and bathroom.
Cats like altitude. It’s OK to insist they stay off tables but you have to provide some other elevation. A cat needs to know what’s going on.
