This is some of the best evidence I can offer that M. Smokey is NOT simply a projection of Mona’s subconscious self. If he were, then his repeated suggestions that Mona and Donna “hook up” would suggest that Mona herself harbors such desires (not that there’s anything wrong with that), but forces her conscious mind to repress them.
