KR is right. Reduced sunspot activity is historically associated with colder climate. The causal mechanism is complex, involving changes to the solar wind, the earth’s magnetic field, the atmosphere’s absorbtion of cosmic rays, and increased cloud cover.
This is why the panicky predictions of man-made global warming are not coming true. Nature does what it’s going to do and man’s small effect is nothing compared to the role of clouds on a planet 70% covered in water.
Of course it’s coming true, faster than we expected for a lot of it (and we’re still refining the numbers). Just thankfully not as bad as it would be if the sun wasn’t helping stop us. Man’s small effect is quite large, and we’re lucky the life giver is trying to stop us, however futilely that attempt is.
