There is a claim that the yo-yo originated in the Philippines as a weapon for hunting. The hunter would sit in a tree waiting for some jungle creature to show up beneath him. At that moment the hunter would drop a large stone yo-yo on the little critter’s head. If he missed, the yo-yo returned to the hunter so he could try again later. If he got bored he could do a giant “rock the cradle” using his feet. So the tree would naturally make a yo-yo reference.
