I had an art teacher once who, to discourage running with scissors, described watching the end of the scissors move with the beating thump of the student’s heart and the agony of wanting to pull the scissors out, but being told not to by the 911 operator. Pretty sure this was urban legend, but it obviously left a lasting scar on my psyche, like those kidney stealing stories you sooner or later hear.

They need broken bone section. I swear, every time they called, it was because one of the kids broke something. Of course bloody noses were pretty common, too, but I don’t think they called us for those.

School nurses barely exist nowadays – victims of budget cuts. Classroom teachers are expected to handle everything from nosebleeds to cleaning out ventilator tubes.
