Back in the 50’s I didn’t like the long needle pushed into a gum. So I tried to do without it. Pain sent my brain through my skull when 3 rpm grinder drill took forever to dig out cavity. Next time paid the $5 extra for novocaine. Now the procedure is rubbing gums with a numbing chemistry before tiny needle is inserted to deaden area for high rpm drill that takes seconds to do the job.
