Rest in Peace, Mort Walker (1923-2018)
by John GlynnIt was sad to hear Mort Walker passed away last week at 94. It's hard to believe that when Mort started "Beetle Bailey," Harry Truman was the president, the Cleveland Indians were just a couple years from their last World Series title and Donald Trump was four years old (*interesting to note that this was also the year that Trump's hands stopped growing).
Sixty-eight years? Come on. That's bonkers. What other American art form/celebrity can claim such a prolific and extended connection with the world?
Beetle and his pals at Camp Swampy have been the good-natured fodder for other cartoonists over the years and we present a few examples of those today as a tip of the hat to one of the great cartoonists in the history of the medium and one heck of a charming and kind man. Rest in Peace, Mort.
