It was his mom, not his dad who thought the kid would shoot his eye out. The dad ended up getting him the gun. Obviously not a big fan of the movie if he can’t get that right.
Correct that dad got the him the gun in the end. But both mom AND dad held by the “you’ll shoot your eye out” argument throughout the movie. Don’t even need to watch the movie, just read the back of the DVD case and it will tell you.

The DVD case is wrong. The dad never once said the “You’ll shoot your eye out” line.
In fact, the dad wasn’t even there when Ralphie told the mom he wanted the BB gun.
