Love the âholler-daysâ! What about the âhollow-daysâ?
By the way, it may have been mentioned before, but I think Rufus and Joel are very much in the literary tradition that includes Shakespeareâs ârude mechanicals.â Even their malaprops mirror the language of Shakespeareâs bumpkins. Some seem offended by this vein of humor, but I feel Scancarelli mines it well, and leaves these characters a core of dignity.
I think Skeezixâs birthday is February 14 - so I hope you are right and this is leading into a story for Skeezix. Back in 2004, Walt went missing and Skeezix went looking for him. While Skeezix was searching for Walt and after Skeezix found Walt and they headed home - the two of them reviewed Waltâs history with Skeezix. When Skeezix got Walt home, Phyllis mentioned that there was MORE to the story about Walt finding Skeezix on the doorstep - but they were all tired and decided to go home and hear the story on another day. That was the night that Phyllis passed away. After the funeral, Skeezix and Walt were sorry that they hadnât insisted on hearing what Phyllis had to say. However, while clearing some of her old things away, Walt and Skeezix found letters between Phyllis and Skeezixâs mother - dating back to the era of Skeezixâs birth. The letters revealed that Phyllis was actually the sister of Skeezixâs mother and Skeezixâs mother had asked Phyllis to keep an eye on Walt and Skeezix for her. Which is why Phyllis started hanging out around the Wallet home and eventually began a romance with Walt. I hope that the next story turns out to be another nice review of Gasoline Alley history with Skeezix and Walt. But I also hope that we do not end up losing Walt in the same way that we lost Phyllis back in 2004. The strip just isnât the same without Phyllis. The strip will become nowhereâs-ville without Walt!
Well - hopefully. Remember- this year - they skipped the walk in the woods to look at the fall colors entirely! Walt giving the great-grandchildren a colorful history lesson about the early days of Walt and Skeezix would be really great. Hope someone on top thinks about it!

Do you really expect Rufus to know what the word subtle means?

Maybe you shouldâve gotten him a dictionary for Christmas. Then he could look up subtle.

How dare Mr. Skeezie leave them out of the bonus. When Joel and Rufus are the last to pick up trash the old way. Hardest working guys.

Are they picking up trash or dumping it out?

02/14/10 falls on a Sunday so weâll have a nice colorful birthday celebration at least.
