Funny how you never have a camera when you want one. Before the days of mobile phone cameras, my dog Sooty, then a small, round border collie pup and the cat from next door sat side by side watching two birds fighting. They evidently enjoyed the scrap. I wonder if they were betting on the outcome.
Had a dog, she went straight to the cat. My father knew that the dog was going to regret her actions because it didn’t move. I think the cat swatted her. She ran to my father.
Had a big grey cat when I was little that was the terror of the neighborhood for all dogs. One day he jumped on the back of a Great Dane, who ran out of ithe yard hollering like he was being murdered. When Tubby sat on the step at the end of the walk at the alley, any dog in rhe allry retreated to the vacant lot far away.
We once had a puppy and a cat at the same time. The dog wanted to play with the cat, but the cat didn’t want to play. The dog wouldn’t take the hint so the cat scratched the dog’s nose.
All great stories! My rescued springer loves cats and wants to play whenever she sees one. At her foster home there were cats and they totally ignored her.
We have a corgie, a brown tabby & an orange tabby. The brown, Sultan, will go out of his way to swat the dog & the dog makes sure to go out of his way to avoid him unless someone is walking with him (the corgie, Rico). The orange, Aslan, however loves the dog & vice versa. They sniff each others’ tail ends, lick each others’ foreheads, necks & ears & even sleep curled up together. Rico is blonde/faun, so when he & Aslan sit together they look like bookends (Aslan is a big guy) LOL..
When I was growing up, our cats were allowed outside. Mom got a Siamese from a lady who had kept the cat inside. Of course, at our house, he soon discovered he could go outside. (Mom didn’t realize he had been de-clawed until it was too late. He was cornered and killed by 2 dachunds. My mom went to the pound and got another Siamese. The new cat had no fear of dogs. In fact, he used to attack them. It’s really funny to see a 90 pound German Shepard being chased down the street by a 10 pound Siamese.
I love your critters!…I have 2 dogs, basset and terrior…and one cat..Katrinka, a siamese….they all play like there is no tomorrow….I really dont think they see a difference in thier species…I love them all, and they seem to love each other…I live in a perfect world dont it?…lol…

I love your animal stories. We don’t have any pets right now so I just picture your household. A St. Bernard and 5 cats – WOW!

That cat’s either tough or infected with mange, I don’t blame Marm for giving him a VERY wide berth.
