This and migthaswellbe remind me of an incident my son helped us out with: We came out of the post office one Saturday to find the steering wheel on the car just plain stuck. Tried everything with the key; removed the cover…everything short of hitting it with a hammer. Couldn’t move the thing no matter what we tried. My son was a mechanic at the time. He met us, sat behind the wheel and contemplated the assembly; got out a rubber mallet and WHACKED the assembly, promptly unlocking the wheel. He looked at us and grinned, “Yeah, sometimes you just gotta hit it.” Never had a problem since.

Poor Gabe. There’s a tendency, when one lives in the city (doesn’t much matter which one), to think that those who don’t are clueless rustics.
