Honestly, though, even living in a pre-1820 house in East Vassalboro, Maine, sixty years ago, that arrangement was definitely “old-timey”—though I grant you could still get coal- or wood-burning kitchen stoves at Sears, then.
(For that matter, in my current house built in 1923, I have a Nest thermostat to control my oil furnace.)

So where did Dolores get the wood? The squirrels surely didn’t bring it.
