Andy: Have you written your thank-you notes yet? Peter: Christmas was just two days ago. If I send them too quickly, it'll look like I just dashed them out. I want the recipients to think I labored on these notes...That I thought about and crafted each one with the utmost care. I figure if I wait two or three weeks, that'll be optimal. Andy: Peter, all you're going to do is wait three weeks and then dash them out anyway. Peter: But no one will know that. Andy: How'd your notes start last year? "Dear person or persons who gave me a gift..." Peter: Oh, c'mon - that could totally be read as a joke!

Lord it’s tough, having to write a short card to a person who only shopped, wrapped, boxed, then mailed a present to you. I’ll go watch “The Biggest Loser.”

keltii I still have my son send thank you notes. Good manners never go out of style.
SprSynJn There are still some of us that do not feel ourselves so entitled that we forget to be thankful.

My mom made us write thank you notes, and that wasn’t all that long ago. I used to hate it. The people getting the notes know the kid doesn’t care, and that their parents forced them to. So it’s pointless. However, when I got married I sent out thank you notes anyway cause it’s polite. And I get the feeling that when I have kids I’ll be making them write thank you notes too.

But I think if you are not sincerely thankful, a thank you card doesn’t help.

I remember a few years ago my aunt made all her nieces and nephews (a least 10 of us) blankets for Christmas. My mom asked me to send her a thank you card for all the work she put into it which I promptly did. I was told that she cried because I was the only one that did send one.

I have a daughter-in-law in Alaska who sent personalized dish towels and pot holders to a bunch of kin folk, me included… I was told only her mother and I sent Thank You notes. The towels were in thanks to us for hosting her and family when they visited this summer.

ninmas,
Why would you CALL them? I mean thats just LAZY!!! If you want them to think you are SINCERELY thankful, you’d probably put a bit of work into it instead of just pushing a bunch of buttons then talking.

Seriously, these guys are a lot like me.

nivellios,
it seems a bit more relaxed, and people don’t always want a generic thanks, note. at least they know that it’s appreciated.
