I never studied in that manner but did many practic lists with my kids when they were in school. And I still believe all of them ARE planets!

I homeschooled my sons, and this wasn’t the way they learned to spell. But I guess that’s because we used phonics - and could figure out the spelling from the sounds the letter combinations made.

Although, this method was used for lists like the planets, etc.

Then there’s the woman who died and got to heaven.

St. Peter looked over her record, and said, “You know, you are right on the edge either way. I’ll give you a little test, and if you pass, you can come in. Spell ‘love’.”

    “L-o-v-e”

    “Very Good. Come in!”

A few months later, she came back by the gate, and passed the time with Pete. Then he asked her for a favor–he needed a little break, could she watch the gate for a few minutes. She agreed, and was sitting there paging idly through the Book when, to her surprise, her former husband came up.

She was very business-like and careful to go through the process. Finally she looked up and said, “You know, you are right on the edge either way. I’ll give you a little test, and if you pass, you can come in.

    “Spell ‘Czechoslovakia’.

“King Phillip Came Over Frying Greasy Sausages.”

(I’m not sure it’s actually any easier to remember than Kingdom, Phylum, etc., but that’s what we used in school…)

Oh, and for me it was “Men Very Early Made Jars Stand Up Nearly Perpendicular.” It’s still the only way I can remember it!
