Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for October 05, 2012
Transcript:
Man: So what's it like blogging for the Huffington Post? Rick: It's okay. The site's popular-- it keeps my name out there. Man: Hey, do you know the guy who thinks up all those awesome sideboob headlines? Rick: Uh... no. Man: They're great. I'll bet he's paid!

Trudeau’s punishment of Rick Redfern is getting uncomfortable. Like the late Rodney Dangerfield, he just can’t get no respect.
DylanThomas3.14159 about 12 years ago
Redfern has this bobblehead outclassed by at least two orders of magnitude.
mrbribery about 12 years ago
he’s probably not paid for his appearances in “Doonesbury” either…

So what ever happened to the person who wrote the famous headline “Headless Body in Topless Bar”? Is that awesome genius a multi-millionaire or living on the street or something in between? Enquiring minds want to know.
montessoriteacher about 12 years ago
It is one thing to have an opinion, it is quite another to be able to express it in a drawing. I have a 14 year old who can draw as if she was a little camera or something. She didn’t get this ability from either of her parents, although her grandma could also draw realistically really well too.

Maybe we should check out huffpost live and ask the huffpost reaction to the current Doonesbury story arc?

Thank you.Now if we can get two more each, and they each get two more, what a great country we could become again. God Bless America and all of you.

As someone who used to be involved with teacher union negotiations about 20 years ago, I can tell you that sometimes these sausage making situations are not pretty. There are still some school administrators who won’t talk to me to this day, though I would be civil to them, if I happened to see them…toughen up liberals, because if you don’t, you WILL get steamrolled.

Am I the only one who remembers the Obama who took on a room full of Reps right after he took office? And he did it with a smile on his face, and kept saying "I’m just sayin’ "
montessoriteacher about 12 years ago
Maybe we just have to remember how high the stakes are?! Mr nice guy won’t win against the GOP because that is now how they play.
annieb1012 about 12 years ago
Pardon my lameness, but could somebody please explain to me what “sideboob headlines” are? I’ve never read the Huffington Post, but I do read the Denver Post, which has a headline writer with a fantastically punny sense of humor. (Not the least bit inchoate, as a matter of fact!)
montessoriteacher about 12 years ago
I’m not sure you really want to know, but they are just what they say they are— side views of women’s breasts.
montessoriteacher about 12 years ago
With headlines attached to the side boobs, of course. As in so and so’s boobs…
montessoriteacher about 12 years ago
Huffpo does also have a lot of other content.
peabodyboy about 12 years ago
Huffpo’s stand on discontent is that the winter of our discontent was made glorious summer by the son of Ann Dunham and Barack Obama, Sr.
montessoriteacher about 12 years ago
Don’t get me wrong, I am all for compromise, but compromise is supposed to involve give and take, not one side giving in on everything, which is what the right always expects. The idea that the democrats cave on everything is what the GOP calls compromise.
Potrzebie about 12 years ago
The joke is that we have a Romney volunteer whom is Huffpo fan. I wonder how many regressives read Huffpo?

Ask God, and it (salvation) shall be given you, seek God and you will find (God), and knock on God’s door and it shall be opened unto you. But the “name it, claim it” prosperity Gospel of Joel Osteen (for instance) is fabrication only. Pray for a new Lexus, send 80$ to the “born again evangelist”, he gets the new Lexus and you get a free seat in Osteen’s personally owned stadium.

A real life Rick Redfern is Bob Herbert . Herbert was a columnist for several newspapers, including the New York Times. He left the Times in 2011 when he was 66 years old. He was probably financially secure but still wanted to work. He joined a think tank and you can read his columns in HuffPo.

But where are the trolls? There ought to be trolls.Quick, send in the trolls.
peabodyboy about 12 years ago
Volunteer Boy better be careful. If Mitt catches him searching for softcore porn on campaign equipment, he is in big trouble. Remember the Danites. Remember Mountain Meadows.

Why doesn’t some entrepreneur begin a start-up company selling Gordon Gekko brand men’s hair products? Bet the Goppers would snurf it up.

“I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. The materialism of affluent Christian countries appears to contradict the claims of Jesus Christ that says it’s not possible to worship both Mammon and God at the same time.” —Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Mohandas_Karamchand_Gandhi
DylanThomas3.14159 about 12 years ago
“Hahahaha”πNeither do you see comments on the DROP in the jobless rate to BELOW 8%!
DylanThomas3.14159 about 12 years ago
If the drop in the jobless rate stays below 8%, that may be the epitaph on the tombstone of Mitt’s presidential aspirations!
pawpawbear about 12 years ago
@DylanThomas3.14159There are so many factors not taken into account when they post these numbers. There are many who are no longer drawing unemployment, which is a key factor in the rate. There are also many who are no longer going to the unemployment office for jobs. Many have simply given up and are no longer recognised for the unemployment rate ^This post is not about partisanship. I’m going after both sides. Mr.Obama says that there are jobs, many jobs, but noone qualified. The big companies changed their technology and/or started new products that needed more training that was not in place, the training, that is. ^The result is people who have aged out of the system and have few resources and options. People, we need to quit hating one another and work towards what should be the common goal of advancing this great nation, not the Democrats and not the Republicans. We need to return to the values of By the people and For the people.^Frankly, all this partison garbage is whats killing us. Athiests, agnostics, Muslims, Sikhs.Hindis, Christans and whatever religion I have missed come together in the middle for the common good. Christians, God has demonstrated that He will use whomever He will for His purposes. Pharoah comes to mind. Muslims, this is a land of laws by the people for the people so work with us not against us. Athiests need to quit being so defensive. We still need to share the country and the planet.^Let us put _*UNITED*_back in THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

“Get off your ASS and do something.”πJust for starters, John: Do you have any idea of how many people read the comments to Doonesbury online?
DylanThomas3.14159 about 12 years ago
“Plutocrats … picked the questions and the moderator."πMethinks they’re a bit more subtle than that; they let their money [(campaign contributions) do their talking for them. Moderator Lehrer and the rest are left to “guess” how best to please “the Masters of the Universe.” The best “guessers” ascend the fastest on the power-money scale.
DylanThomas3.14159 about 12 years ago
Prime example of a “best guesser”: George Robert Stephanopoulos.

I’m not surprised that an outfit that AOL could afford to buy out doesn’t pay its blogger-columnists..Well, actually I was surprised to learn that AOL still exists…

I’ve seen two explanations for Obama’s dis-performance in the first debate. One is that he was thinking about the news from Turkey. The other is that he was blindsided by the disinfodump coming at high speed from the seemingly caffeinated Romney. It takes three times as long to debunk a lie as it does to tell it, and Romney responded to any debunkings with simple denial (more lying).
I’ll consider these extenuating circumstances, but I’m still disappointed. Hoping for better things.
