Boy, she makes Liz look like a sweetie.

I’d rather get my coffee at Starbucks. And I really don’t like Starbucks.

What a mean, ungrateful cow. I can’t stand her or her lazy daughter, who insists on wasting money on things they can’t afford. You have live-in grandparents and yet their precious daughter shouldn’t have to dirty her hands and get a job?

As you can see, this a sore point with me!

Why is this strip written from the perspective of the 1950s? Are there really women who would rather their husbands worked a second job than to get one themselves? I don’t know anyone like that, but then most of the women I know are already working outside the home.

Yeah, the cartoonist better lighten the tone of his strip, or he’s going to lose a lot of readers.

Aww, show me some love! If you don’t know women who fight with their daughters (and undercut them, deliberately or not), you don’t know women with daughters. And I don’t know about you, but I know LOTS of folks who can’t seem to make logical decisions when it comes to their own finances. And Liz may be many things, but she’s not a spendthrift.

Well, he’s lost me as a reader. This is just vicious nonsense.

Gee whiz people, lay off the grandmother. She just gave a for instance. She didn’t come across as being mean-spirited. Back in the 50’s, the only women who worked were single. Some continued working after getting married until the first baby arrived and then they quit. They were able to raise their kids without having to go back to work. These days, both parents have to work because nine times out of ten, they don’t have a choice. And that was the case with my family. Prices go up but the majority of salaries don’t. And if Liz hopes to find a job, I wish her luck. The current job market sucks. I’ve been looking for over 3 years. I’ve finally given up. If it was Irv’s choice to get a second job then fine. And personally, I find this strip reflects the current times, despite the personality conflicts between family members. There will always be such conflicts especially where either the kids have to move back in with their parents or, as in this case, the parents have to move in with the kids. I like this strip enough, when it first came to GoComics, I went to the very beginning to read it all. At least, I hope I went to the very beginning. :) So for those who don’t like the strip anymore and want to drop it, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

The only decent guy in this strip is the Dad. Probably why he gets all the roll off from above.

I know you probably won’t see this, but if Liz can blow money on organic food (recall earlier strips where the husband and father were shopping and when one asked “what would Liz want us to buy?” the reply was “whatever is the most expensive,” I don’t think they are the working poor.
