    And the open lanes are always next to each other, to allow close interaction among customers who are bagging their own purchases - a great way to establish contact in a world where we too often just want more space for ourselves.

    I hate when that happens. Luckily, a couple of the stores that I shop at call in the cashiers when the lines start getting long.

    Like every big box store in the universe… once you commit to the checkout line, you are no longer a “customer of interest” and your time has no value.
