I just learned that Mercury doesn’t quite revolve and rotate at the same rate. But its dark side is still cold enough for water ice.

Yes, there are craters at Mercury’s poles that never receive any sunlight. Add in the fact that Mercury has virtually no atmosphere left to hold in heat, and you get one of the coldest spots in the whole of the solar system. Neat, huh?
