Remember Party lines? Sure do. Eight on a line. One pore olâ lady had nothing to do all day but chat with her fellow shut-ins..(sorta the CB radio of its day) Lots of calls from the operator to tell her to GETOFF it, âcuz other people were trying to call IN! As late as the middle â70âs I was on a party line when I moved to Ohio farm territory.âCricket" (I think) was the ringers on those first push-button phones..Theyâd wake you up in the middle of the night with âWhat the heck is THAT noise coming from the kitchen??â(or wherever the phone was situated)

I think my phone company 10 years ago made me exchange my rotary dial trimline phone for a push button versionâŠ

Dial implies a circle, rotation, so touch tone keying is not dialing.
