As usual, Petey gives good neurotic advice.

Gosh, Alice, you ARE only four! You could follow Petey’s advice; but his personality is so different from yours, I don’t think that would be a good fit for you. Just sit however you please and don’t let the Big People intimidate you!

I used to be able to sit like that as a kid. Of course,I was way more flexible then!

While sitting cross-legged on the floor, I can simply stand straight up (using arms/hands for balance only). And then sit back down again. I’m fifty-seven.

Sitting like that has been linked to knee damage later on, undue stress on cartilage and ligaments alike.

Being 74 I usually find it more comfortable to push off of a table or something when standing up from my usual cross-legged position on the floor. Some days my knees hurt more than others. My computer table is 13 inches off the floor.

“W” sitting (how Alice is sitting) is really bad for us…causes hip & knee problems. Stretches the ligaments/tendons too much. Orthopedic surgeon & Occupational Therapists tell me (and others) this. I thought it was a good sign of flexibility but apparently gymnasts have big hip & knee problems late in life.
