Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for January 19, 2013
Transcript:
Mom: How was your first day back? Alice: It was Nara's birthday, so she got to sit in the very special chair. Alice: I was sick for a week. You'd think I'd get the chair. Mom: I see Nara's mom made cupcakes. Alice: I don't want it, I'm just keeping it as an aid to sulking. Mom: Yet you managed to eat all the icing off it.

Sometimes life really sulks.

Wonder what they would do if two kids had birthday on the same day. Or to put it bluntly I don´t think that chair is a good idea.

If Alice misbehaves, Miss Bliss will give her a seat in the electric chair.

Aliceâs âaid to sulkingâ is a practical way (as observed by Madeline) of dealing with her own negativity. Now, if only she comes to see Naraâs side of Miss Blissâs decision!

Of course Alice ate all the icing⌠it will help to keep her frosted off.

Even Alice canât resist the icy blue frosting.

They should have been allowed to share the chair! Duh. Or the class could have made a special paper âWelcome backâ hat for Alice to wear. Or sung the âGlad youâre not sick anymoreâ song. So many possibilities.

@pumaman â on the other hand, Alice surely could use very serious âyou are not the center of the world and the Earth does not revolve around youâ message. No need to indulge her too far.

Sometimes I only eat the icing.

âBakeryâ icing usually gives me the heebie-jeebies. The blue icing is homemade, which is obviously why Alice isnât complaining about THAT. If itâs good enough for DillâŚâŚ..

I love Aliceâs mom. Sheâs a good mom.
