I used to do this every year when I lived in New Mexico and we went to cut Christmas trees (for a $5 license) at one of the national parks. I always forgot to just go by my height and went with how it looked outside (versus a room with a ceiling).
I lived in a big, old house when I was in my 20s, with 10’ high ceilings. I bought a tree where the height was perfect, but forgot to take into consideration width and weight. it took two of us to pull it through the front door. It crushed our tree stand so we purchased one that was made of concrete and 1/4" steel. The tree was still too heavy and kept tipping, so we wired it to the wall. After decorating it with the few decorations we had we retired for the night. In the morning we discovered a mouse nest in the tree and baby mice were scampering about under it. Finally, when we took the tree down we went through the same effort trying to pull the tree out of the house thtrough the door. We had dried needles flying everywhere. Great memories!
