Ah, phone booths: When I was an auto appraiser, before we were issued cellphones, we had to use cellphones to call in to the office. Finding one that worked was a challenge, and then it was just slightly better than stepping into a public porta-potty: drunks used them as urinals, homeless souls slept and sometimes died in them.

The lobby outside the “Windows on the World” restaurant atop the north tower of the World Trade Center had great glass phone booths.
