Don’t forget: “There is only one thing in the world worse than being recognized, and that is not being recognized.”

What I enjoy the most with this comic is that one can enjoy it pretty much without ever knowing anything about the current topic, in this case “prop 8”. I could probably google it, but I’m happy with the current state of my ignorance.

margueritem - I don’t think he’s an office geek. I think he’s a Mormon missionary. Hard to tell whether that’s a name tag or a pocket protector, though.

I love the peaceful, sensible protesting the anti-prop 8 groups present (/sarcasm). Death threats, beating up 89 year old women, vandalism of supporters vehicles, property, and signage. Free speech for them but not for us, right?

Machtyn, there are plenty of silly, stupid and violent people on both sides of any question. If there weren’t, we wouldn’t need laws (or religion, either). sigh

Unfortunately, some people are convinced by now that violence is the only means left, because they tried legal and peaceful methods for years, and apparently are right back where they started. Personally, I don’t think they’re right, and slow but steady progress has been made (sometimes 3 steps forward and 2 steps back, and then take it to court and lose the third step), but I’ve been an activist since I got out of the Marines back in the 1970’s and by now I pretty much understand how some of them feel.

I still wonder whether civil rights get granted more quickly with or without violent protest. Violence causes resentment and results in an unwillingness to listen to the other side, while nonviolent protest seems to allow the opposition to feel that they can safely ignore the issue without adverse consequence.

It seems pretty obvious that some people here are unaware of who the wild man in the tie is.

    Nice pun.

Oscar Wilde…playwright, author, pundit, wit. Man about town and dandy. Imprisoned in Reading Gaol for homosexual behavior with the son of a nobleman. Best known for The Importance of Being Earnest, and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

I wonder just what it is Oscar has in mind.

runar, surely there could be no confusion about Oscar’s character, except possibly within the ranks of Wahhabi Islam and the FLDS, and I kinda doubt they read this strip.

Heavenly, you didn’t mention that “Bosie” is the “son of the nobleman” in question, and that he ratted out on Oscar after taking him for about everything he was worth.

I didn’t mention a lot of things about Mr. Wilde. It was a brief description and a note as to why HE is pertinent in this particular strip.

I figured some folks would get confused by the “Bosie” reference in the first frame if they didn’t know who Oscar was in the first place.
