Wouldn’t that just have been too much fun if the wardrobe malfunction had happened during Superbowl XXX !

Superbowl L Oh, man, I can’t wait! Man, does Jimmie Johnson know people or what? A classic. And it’s exactly like a couple would talk about it..Stunning, really…And funny…can’t forget that part….

Pretty good day to head for the mall, or wherever else there’s not a TV… Just be home before the end of the game, when the stuffed drunks hit the road!

Quick Sunday trivia, learned at Henry the Eighth’s Hampton Court Palace: when tennis was introduced to England from France, along with its scoring system, the English were still using Roman numerals, which have no zero. The English referred to the French zero used in scoring as “l’oeuf” or “the egg,” given the resemblance. Fast forward a few centuries and “l’oeuf” is now known in tennis as “love.” At least that’s what they tell the tourists at Hampton Court Palace.

I was born January 11, 1967. It’s easy for me to remember. :-)

That would seem to go along well with the story that “loo” (for bathroom) was either from French “[gardez] l’eau” — “[watch out for] the water” (being dumped out) or “room 100” with the number 100 being read as letters loo.

They messed-up on the color of the sofa again. Yes, I have a very dull life.

I find it difficult to take a sport seriously when the commercials interrupting the championship-deciding game are the biggest story of the day.

We’re all in for Super Bowl “ell” today.

Super Bowl III was the best in my opinion. Broadway Joe.

I always know which birthday I have coming up by which Super Bowl it is…not looking forward to L.

Only one strip that I’ve come across so far has a reference to the Super Bowl. What is this country coming to?!

It was pompous to put Roman numerals on something as trivial as a football game!

I was having the same problem. I thought that it was just me.

Well, I liked today’s strip. They muddled around with figuring out the number, as I would – thought the “L” part was clever.

Amusing, but also sad. Some of us learned Roman numerals much better than that and would never confuse XL for LX.

It was painful reading copy-write dates before the year MM. Especially in MDCDLXCVIX (using the traditional method – it would be written as MCMXCIX in modern usage, but if you want to extend that you could even write it as MIM and it should be understood….)

Then when it came, they just called it “50.”
