Cathy: Now what? Mom: A civilization that hides behind sunglasses is a civilization that's ashamed of itself, Cathy! Cathy: Oh, no. Not another motherly theory... Mom: In my day, folks were decent, doors were locked, and sunglasses were one teensy rack in the drugstore. Today, there's corruption, decay, a dearth of social graces, and a sunglass emporium on every corner. It's shame, pure and simple. 500 million ashamed eyeballs hiding behind 250 million pairs of tortoise shell frames! I say, write a proper thank-you note! Do unto others! Give without being asked! Pick up after yourself! Keep your private affairs private and you won't need to hide behind a pair of... POINK. Mom: My goodness! I do look cool, don't I?? Cathy: What price vanity? Saleswoman: $52.99, not including tax.

Well, I suppose that celebrities and other rich people probably do hide behind their sunglasses in order to “escape” as best they can from the ever-intrusive paparazzi, etc., but that’s certainly not what I wear mine for. My eyes are pretty sensitive to bright sunlight so I wouldn’t be able to go outside — let alone drive — without them. But $52.99 (not including tax) for just a regular pair of non-prescription sunglasses?!? I don’t think so!!! I can always find something just as cute and pretty at Walgreens, Target, or Walmart as I can at Dillard’s, Nordstrom’s, etc. — and for A LOT less money, too. Why spend more than you really need to . . . on ANYTHING?!?
