I’ve lived in Kansas City for 30+ years. . . not sure I really know what Charlie means, but I interpret it as meaning that no matter how hard KC tries to look like a city, it will always be perceived as a few tall buildings in the middle of farmland. And, no, KC hasn’t been built up — it sprawls all over. Oh, and it would be KC, Missouri, because no one remembers KC, Kansas, or so the saying goes.
