Charlie Brown’s puppy love for the little red-haired girl (never seen in the strip) is one of the most poignant aspects of Peanuts. We all have someone like that in our lives. They might not have been right for each other, but she will always be “the one who got away.”

So close, and yet so far, eh Charlie Brown?

Maybe you’re thinking of Michael and Deanna of For Better or for Worse, she moves away but he meets her again many years later and they get married.

Wait til she’s alone Charlie Brown, don’t try to talk to her when she’s with her friends. Then simply say, “Hi, how are you?” If she laughs at you, she’s not worthy of your attention!

Stupid is as stupid does… and that’s all I have to say about that!

“Cause you’re a fraidicat. You’ve convinced yourself she’ll reject you and you can’t handle rejection..That ain’t it. He’s more afraid of her ACCEPTING him, and reciprocating his affections. Rejection? Hah-that’s the easy side of the coin.

Someone did some strips of Calvin & Hobbes after they grow up. Maybe we could find some of the Peanuts gang grown up.

It’s too bad that Charlie didn’t have Snoopy sneak up on the red haired girl and grab something form her and take it to him. Then, she could come over to get it back and then Charlie Brown could talk to her.

Ah, my middle school years….
