No, if it were (idealized) communism, they’d all be paid the same, would share in the ownership of the shop, and then all, including Senor Rod, would contribute equally. More to the point here is that S. Rod volun-told his workers they they would pay for his beneficence – that’s a species of dictatorship, as hippogriff points out, and that is not unique or a necessary feature of communism/socialism, any more than it is of capitalism (in which case we would call it fascism), or our current corporate kleptocracy, which is leaning heavily towards fascism, but hasn’t gotten that far (yet).
