I fully agree with Calvin and it continues throughout life, especially during the kid raising years.

especially if the teacher is teaching to the standardized test and giving out packet work.

When you consider his love of exploration, amazing creative imagination, intelligent vocabulary, and Hobbes versus sitting in place for hours, repeatitve lesson drills, grindingly slow lessons, and bullies can you blame him. Double ungood.

agreed – but who would people blame when they suddenly realize they’re not Steve Jobs or even Bill Gates.

You can have thoughts, Calvin. But to stay out of trouble you should consider not voicing them.

Even here? I mean, even in the responses to a comic there is purposeful nastiness.

Now, as for the comic… it is so, so true! And K-12 is mostly like that, especially with the standardized testing. It works for some kids, but not all. Some kids thrive learning in alternative settings. Most won’t ever be another Jobs or Gates, but they should still be allowed to try!

You can think it all you want, Calvin, just don’t say it out loud!

School is. But childhood is to be wasted. What else is there to do? Calvin comes home and watches TV anyway. (And worship it with tapioca brain offering.)

Yep, that was pretty much the same thought I had in K-12. College was a LOT better.

You have to take tme to waste it, so is it really wasted?

I wish I had the awareness in grade school to realize it was a “big, fat waste of my time”. Thought Police?, or just training for your 9-5 employment later in life.

Training for middle management

Are most people this sceptical about their education? I didn’t “like” most of my schooling, but learned enough math to use at work and in life and enough English to read and to then educate myself as I needed to. I think that is what school is all about. Learn to fly and then fly on your own, as you were meant to fly, where you are meant to fly. To that degree my schooling wasn’t a waste of time, even though it wasn’t mostly fun.
