No, I think she sent the $500 check AFTER Li’l Abner saved her from marrying the Baron (and saved her a lot of money in the process). Don’t know if it’s part of the current story arc or not, but the timing’s about right.
And what happened to the magnifier for this strip? I’m with nevarhoden: It’s almost impossible to read without being able to blow it up. It was working until a few days ago.
Used to read this in the Des Moines Register in the 60’s and early 70’s till I enlisted. Too bad no one has opted to re-start the strip and update it. Always enjoyed it along with Smoky Stover among other comics from that time period which have died off. A real shame, too.

What happened? Yesterday was a new one, now we are back to Abner’s New Yawk adventure—we just did that one.
