In July 2008, Danish runner Jesper Olson started a 23,000 mile run, from Norway to Newfoundland via South Africa, finally finishing in July 2012!

Actually, Olsen ran from Norway to South Africa, got sick, recovered in Denmark for six months, then ran from Argentina to Newfoundland. Presumably he flew or boated over water.
