since when is Set a snake? Set should be a lean black carnivore with bifurcated tail, squared off ears and a long droopy snout. That is how the Egyptians portrayed him. Noone knows what that animal is supposed to be, but it was the symbol of Set.
Personally I hate snakes, but Set is so cute. Especially with his one little tooth. Reminds me of my little dog Bronco, the one toothed, 3 legged wonder dog. Love today’s strip big brother. ;:^)
Closest living animal to the symbol of Set would be the Aardvark, actually the only one that even remotely resembles him. Snake deities: Wadjet the mother goddess of lower Egypt, represented as a rearing cobra, sometimes with wings, Python the large snske who protected the oracle at Delphi,The Midgard [Middle-Earth] serpent of Norse mythology. The Rainbow serpent of the Australian Aboriginal dreamtime, Asclepius, the greek god of healing who’s symbol is a snake, which we still see on pharmaceuticals twined around a staff, The giant serpent who helped in the churning of the sea of milk in Hindu mythology.
