Alice: Dill, don't shoot at lightning bugs with a water pistol! Dill: Why? Alice: Petey says it's dangerous! It's like pushing a toaster into the bathtub! Petey says urlghk- Aaaggrrrrrgh! Dill: A little danger can add zest and urgency to an otherwise dull life!

Dill, are you sure you need more urgency?

I sure hope Dill can outrun her. Unfortunately, Tennessee Charlie, I can remember Maggie & Jiggs. Maggie was a tough old gal.

I remember Maggie & Jiggs. Talk about hen-pecking!! Jiggs couldn’t sneeze without Maggie going after him with a rolling pin. I also remember once Jiggs wanted Corned beef and cabbage for dinner, so he told Maggie and the cook how much he hated it. Of course, that’s what they fixed.

Any comment that begins “Petey says…” is probably better drowned out anyway.
And if you combine yesterday’s strip with today’s, it leads to an old Pogo Possum gag. Rackety Coon chile’ has a water pistol and he aims it at the sun. Churchy grabs it and says “Keerful! You wanna put that OUT?”

the heck with what petey says…
dill just wanted to get some aerobic exercise for the day, and alice is glad to oblige
i too remember magie and jiggs, and the katzenjammer kids which were among my favorite strips way back when.
on another note, yesterday’s strip showed alice throwing mulch at the stars, the movie coraline which was released yesterday has a reference to mulch in it at about 41 minutes

Oh, yeah, Maggie & Jiggs, and “Our Boarding House” with Martha and Major Hoople? Boy, YOU guys must be old.
Edit: That made me think, of Captain Easy, Freckles and His Friends, Boots and Her Buddies, Terry and the Pirates, Alley OOp…… Boy, YOU guys must be old.

dailyink still runs vintage strips. They have Maggie and Jiggs (Bringing Up Father), Krazy Kat, Brick Bradford, Rip Kirby as well as the original Phantom, Beetle Baily and Flash Gordon. The Little King is there on Sundays.

I remember reading all those comics in newspapers my grandmother had saved for years. [I come by my packrat tendencies naturally]. Although they were from years before my time, I still enjoyed them.

From the various comments here and there, I can’t help but think that the majority of us regular comic readers are in the 50, 60 and well above range.
If so, I’d like to think it’s because we’re a carefree and light hearted bunch, but maybe it has more to do with being worn out, bored, and needing a good laugh.

I saw a fellow on the subway yesterday whose head shape and amount of hair made me think for one split second that Dill had grown up and moved to NYC.

RT of course is a HUGE fan of the classics. So subtle homage to Maggie and Jiggswould not surprise me…

This is almost panel-for-panel equivalent to an early Charlie Brown strip, where Charlie Brown gets the best of a girl (I think it was Patty [not Peppermint Patty], but not sure)
