Alice: What's all that stuff in front of your house? Dill: My brothers opened a lemonade stand. Alice: I love lemonade! Dill: Then they expanded into chips, hot dogs, candy and power drinks. Then bait and tackle, beer and wine, fireworks, souvenirs and automotive supplies. Dill: Then finally car-detailing and a large animal clinic and taxidermy studio. That's when my dad put his foot down. Alice: Darn! I wanted some lemonade!

Poor Alice, such simple thoughts. She probably never heard a word between lemonade and father put his foot down!

In Berkeley there’s a veterinary clinic which shares a lot with a Chinese restaurant. I always wondered whether there’s a passageway in back, safely out of public view, connecting the two businesses.
By the way, if we ever SAW Dill’s brothers they’d lose their appeal. They’re the Red Baron, Norm’s wife, Carlton the Doorman, Thomas Pynchon, God, and so on…

Direct me to a four-year-old that can make lemonade herself without spilling the ingredients all over the kitchen. And Alice is far from stupid.
