I didn’t get at first, because in most cartoons we look for something immediately obvious. The cartoon is a commentary on how we value sports more than the arts. The expressions are the key; the sad look on the violinist’s face, and the doleful look on the man in the lower left corner. And of course the golfer’s bucket of money (not too well drawn), to which people are adding more, while the violinist’s case remains empty.
I didn’t get it either. I had to come read the comments. I thought the guy putting money in … was actually pitching the ball and golfer was missing them lol
Great comments on this one – the serious and the funny!!! I, too, don’t get why we value sports so much more than anything else. Sadly, it’s all about the money.
ever play golf? excellence on the golf course is just as demanding as mastering a musical instrument. with the economic cuts in education, sporting events usually come out on top in contemporary schools. many music programs (which are shown to enhance mental performance in various disciplines) depend on private funding just to exist. which would you rather be available to your children?

I don’t get it. We care more for the pro golfer than we do for the needy violinist (artist)????
