Hard times today do not come close to the Great Depression. They had between 40 – 70% unemployed until we started supplying other people’s war, Domestic commerce dried up because the people that had jobs were afraid of cuts, they had no Social Security or unemployment insurance as we no it today, fewer people lost homes because fewer people financed homes until after G I Bill, EXCEPT the banksters who caused the crash which led to the Depression, and in those days many of the banksters had the decency to kill themselves and the markets clawed back everything most of the crooked banksters had.

The Metropolitan Opera is far worse than PBS in asking for money.

Well this should be interesting!!! Mom complains about tough times during the current recession, but probably has plenty of money set aside to spoil and pamper herself without attending to her daughter’s needs or requests!!!!

Jane should tell her to go out and do odd jobs for the neighbours like my brother and I did. We’d shovel snow, wash cars, mow grass, all sorts of things to pick up a few bucks. It felt good to spend money we had earned ourselves.

And if your unemployment benefits have run out or you have given up looking for a job, the administration no longer counts you as unemployed. You do not exist to them.
