Brutus: We got another solicitation for a new credit card in the mail today.
Brutus: They must send us at least a couple every week! For people without any money to spare...
Brutus: There sure a lot of companies that want to do business with us!
We keep getting those too. Our credit score must be okay. Back in 2006, just for the hell of it, I went to the website of one of those offers. I was shocked when I was accepted. Good thing too. Because a month after that, my dad passed away and we had to drive 1500 miles for the funeral. I don’t fly. So now we just use the card in emergencies. Haven’t had one yet, thank goodness.
My dad worked those credit card offers into interest-free loans. When one’s 0% interest was about to run out, he would transfer the balance to a new offer, and so on.
I received one a while back with a $100,000 limit. I checked and found that I qualified to use it for the full amount. I was thinking of buying a huge boat, emptying all of my bank accounts, and then sailing to a tropical country with no extradition treaty with the US. Should I have done it?

They don’t want to do business with you. They want to own you.
